Talks & Workshops: 2012-2013 Schedule

Tuesday, March 13th, 7:00-9:00 p.m.  Workshop: "Helping Hands: How Birth Partners Can Use Touch to Provide Relief in Pregnancy and Labor.  This workshop is part of the Spring 2011 Bradley Method® childbirth education class series run by Lauren Amand, AAHCC in Pawtucket, Portsmouth and Barrington RI.  The Bradley Method® is a system of natural labor techniques using abdominal breathing combined with relaxation.  Partners learn comfort measures, massage techniques and how to support and encourage the laboring woman through the emotional stages of labor.  Registration is completed and the classes are underway.  To register for Lauren's next Bradley Method® class series or for more information, contact her at (401) 682-1541 email laurenamand@cox.net, or visit www.gentlebirthri.com

Tuesdays, October 2, 9, 16, and 23, 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Four-part workshop: "Acupressure and Shiatsu for Health Care Practitioners".  This workshop is designed primarily for occupational and massage therapists, nursing assistants and home health aides who wish to learn these ancient and gentle methods to enhance their caregiving.  Caregivers with some prior experience in shiatsu or none at all are welcome.  At the Community College of Rhode Island's Downcity Campus, Providence, RI.  Cost: $150. Thursday, March 15, 2013, 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Friday, March 16th, 1:00-4:00 p.m. (repeat) Workshop: Putting Ki Into Your Massage Practice: How to Integrate Shiatsu and Acupressure Into Full Body Massage.  At the AMTA New England Regional Conference, Framingham, MA.  In this hands-on workshop learn how to take traditional Asian bodywork techniques off the Shiatsu mat and into your day-to-day table massage practice. After a review of basic principles of traditional Chinese medicine and shiatsu, you will experience how these principles can inform massage therapy body mechanics, diagnostics and treatment strategies. You will also learn helpful acupressure points for common ailments and discover how to insert useful Shiatsu techniques seamlessly in table massage.  Open to all massage therapists.  For more information and to register, visit www.amta-nerc.org.
